NBA Rumors: Kings, Sixers emerge as possible suitors for Ricky Rubio

The NBA rumors surrounding Ricky Rubio has toned down since the Summer League started but it is expected that he will be eventually be traded. According to the latest rounds of speculations, the Sacramento Kings and Philadelphia 76ers might have the most interest in acquiring Rubio from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Rubio has been linked with several teams before the NBA draft and his future in Minnesota got murkier when point guard Kris Dunn was selected fifth overall. However, it seems like the trade rumors have gone nowhere and Rubio might be staying until the deadline.

In a recent interview with the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said that Rubio likely won’t get dealt this offseason. He noted that head coach Tom Thibodeau is planning to improve the Spaniard’s shooting and observe what Dunn can do before making a deal.

“I think the coach wants to bring an assistant coach to help Ricky on his shooting and I think that’s where we’re going to start out and go and we’ll see how good Kris Dunn is,” Taylor said.

According to Arthur Hill of Hoops Rumors, Rubio will share minutes with Dunn and Tyus Jones to start the season. However, he mentioned that it makes sense for Minnesota to deal Rubio because he still owed $42.5 million for the next three seasons.

Hill suggested that the Kings and Sixers are the likely destinations for Rubio. Sacramento lost Rajon Rondo in free agency and Darren Collison still has some issues off the court. On the other hand, the Sixers would be smart to have a true point guard to ease Ben Simmons transition to the NBA.

It should be noted that these are just speculations but the Timberwolves will likely hold on to Rubio until the deadline. Nevertheless, Minnesota’s future is very bright as they have a bunch of young talents ready to take the next step.
