NBA Rumors: Kobe Bryant needs to stay away from the Lakers, says NBA columnist

Kobe Bryant is currently enjoying his retirement by investing $100 million in technology while also expressing his desire to help the young core of the Los Angeles Lakers. However, one NBA columnist thinks Bryant should stay away from the Lakers for now.

In a recent interview with Mike Bresnahan of Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Kobe revealed that he wants to help the young Lakers players, as well as the team’s coaching staff. He mentioned that he loves to get involved with the franchise and work out with the players.

“I would love to come by. I’ve spoken with Luke several times, Shaw as well. I let the players know that I’m always around, man. I’m always around. If they wanna come out and work out, wake up early in the morning to work out, [I’d] walk them through some things,” Bryant said.

According to Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders, it would be best for the Lakers development if Kobe Bryant stays away from the team. He added that he is not taking away from Kobe but he wants players such as D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle to develop on their own.

“Some people may find this as some sort of slight, but perhaps the best way Bryant can help his former team is by simply staying away from things right now,” Davis opined.

“With an average age of under 25 years old, it may ultimately be a good thing for them to simply breathe and be on their own for awhile as they take the next step in their development,” he added.

It should be noted that Davis pointed out the young players will eventually need Kobe Bryant but not at the moment. The Lakers are far from being a playoff team and if they finally become one, that is when “Mamba” steps in and gives them advice.
