NBA Rumors: Lakers consider trading Jordan Clarkson if they get Jamal Murray in the 2016 NBA draft

NBA rumors are now swirling around the Los Angeles Lakers who are reportedly having interest with the 2016 NBA draft rookie prospect Jamal Murray.

According to Rick Bozich of WDRB in Louisville, the Lakers interviewed UK guard Jamal Murray on Wednesday night and were impressed with the incoming freshman. Murray is expected to land at the number three pick with Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons at the first and second spot. Murray has the quality of a guard that every NBA team is looking for in the offseason.

Unfortunately, if the Lakers will pursue him in the upcoming NBA draft, there will be a conflict in the position of D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson with Jamal Murray since they are all guards. However, if it will based on consistency and intensity in the game, Clarkson’s performance in the 2015-16 season is not that good for the Lakers if will not improve next season.

With this, the Los Angeles Lakers can think of the possibility of either trading Clarkson and keeping Murray once they land at the number three spot. Murray is a natural scorer who is an excellent shooter both spotting up and coming off of screens. He has a high basketball IQ and is very crafty with the ball though there are questions about his athleticism as well as his ability to make plays for others.

Bases on a previous report, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak admitted that there is a higher possibility that they would trade their first round pick for a more experienced player. This means that they will plan to keep the young core– D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle– and rebuild their team by hiring a superstar free agent in the upcoming off-season.

Though there is a higher competition with the top picks in the 2016 NBA draft, the Lakers are one of the team with a higher chance in landing the top picks like Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram. If this happens, one of these two promising freshmen will be a good trade offer for any NBA teams in exchange for a veteran player.
