NBA Rumors: Lakers trading Nick Young and Lou Williams for Rudy Gay

Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Los Angeles Lakers who are reportedly trading Nick Young and Lou Williams for Rudy Gay of the Sacramento Kings.

Despite some improvements this offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers are still predicted to become the worst team in the Western Conference next season. The Lakers are currently rebuilding the team in the post-Kobe Bryant era. There are rumors that they are still eyeing to improve their roster for the 2016-17 NBA season.

Rudy Gay has been involved in various trade rumors this offseason. The Sacramento Kings are having a hard time moving the 29-year-old forward because of his expensive contract that is about to expire next year.

“The problem with trading Gay, who is owed $13.33 million this season, is that the Kings would have to take back some level of salary in the deal and find a team open to taking on Gay in what could be a one-year rental.” Steve Kyler of Basketball Insider reported.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have been forcing a trade for Nick Young in the past months. According to Zach Harper of CBS Sports, the rift between Young and D’Angelo Russell could ruin the Lakers’ mission next season. Harper suggested for the Lakers to move Young or waive his contract.

The Lakers could trade Nick Young and Lou Williams for Rudy Gay. This trade scenario works in the ‘ESPN Trade Machine’. Gay could help in the Lakers’ scoring woes, especially now that Kobe Bryant retired. He averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season.

Hannah Kulik of Lakers Nation revealed that the Lakers are planning to use Brandon Ingram at 2, which will lessen the worries in Lou Williams’ possible departure. Ingram will be sharing playing time with Jordan Clarkson in the shooting guard position.

However, there are other teams who are reportedly interested in trading for Rudy Gay, including the Houston Rockets. The Lakers should make their move if they want to add a solid scorer in their team while moving Nick Young out of their roster.
