The Los Angeles Lakers continue their search for their next head coach and they were granted permission to interview former player and current Golden State Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton for the job, in the latest NBA rumors in Hollywood.
Marc J. Spears of ESPN is reporting that Lakers general manager (GM) Mitch Kupchak had asked for permission to interview Walton and was granted permission, as soon as the Warriors series versus the Houston Rockets is over.

Walton and the Warriors lead the Rockets, 3-1 in their best-of-seven first round series in the 2016 NBA Playoffs and can close out the series on Wednesday night. Even without Stephen Curry, who is out due to a knee injury, the Warriors are favored to win against the Rockets and the NBA rumors of the interview with Walton could happen also on Wednesday.
Earlier in the week, Walton was asked about the head coaching job availability around the league, which has linked him to coaching with the Lakers, Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks. Walton said his focus for now is helping the Warriors defend the NBA title they won last year.
Walton was the temporary head coach for the Warriors when the team was without head coach Steve Kerr earlier in the season. The former Laker stepped up nicely and helped the team to a 39-4 record in the first half of the regular season and the team eventually broke the previous record of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls finishing with 73 wins against 9 losses for the season.
Should Walton accept the Lakers job, he will handle the likes of D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle and their top 2016 NBA Draft pick as core of the team.
NBA rumors related to Los Angeles continue to hog the headlines lately as teams are aggressive in trying to acquire their next head coach. The Lakers are also linked to Jeff Van Gundy, Ettore Messina, Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher, among others.
