NBA Rumors: Rajon Rondo nearing to sign with the Brooklyn Nets; Kings still hoping for his comeback

Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Brooklyn Nets who reportedly have a ‘mutual interest’ with Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo in the upcoming free agency.

The Brooklyn Nets are currently in need of a guard who can work side by side with center Brook Lopez. The Nets recently lost their second-best player, Thaddeus Young, in the trade for the Indiana Pacers’ 20th overall pick (Caris Levert) in the 2016 NBA draft and the 2017 second-round pick.

The Brooklyn Nets lost all their first-round picks when they pursue the Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett trade in 2013. They think that adding a quality point guard in the upcoming free agency can give a boost to their team’s performance next season since they waived their guards Deron Williams and Joe Johnson last season.

According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insider, the Brooklyn Nets are drawing interest with the Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo and said that the guard feels the same way.

Rajon Rondo could be the best option for the Nets. The four-time All-Star led the league in assist last season which makes him the best fit for Nets big man Brook Lopez. Rondo is known to be a pass-first point guard but he can also drive and be a threat on the perimeter when needed.

However, Steve Kyler of Basketball Insider revealed that it is not only Rajon Rondo that the Brooklyn Nets are eyeing in the upcoming free agency. The Nets are also reportedly targeting Brandon Jennings, Jeremy Lin, Jamal Crawford and Al Horford in the nearing free agency.

The Brooklyn Nets should make an intense study in choosing the free agent who can be a good fit for their team. The Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce trade in 2013 should give them a lesson that they can use to build their future in the league.
