The Philadelphia 76ers have openly shopped Jahlil Okafor in the past several weeks hoping to get another top pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. However, the latest NBA rumors suggest that Sixers are not getting a top five selection for Okafor because his value is not as high as the team expected.
ESPN analyst Chad Ford was a recent guest on 97.5 The Fanatic with Joe DeCamara and he mentioned that the Sixers are now realizing that Okafor’s value will not get them a top five pick. His value has taken a hit due to the small-ball revolution of today’s NBA that simply does not fit his skill set.
The 20-year-old Duke product is a back to the basket center that usually operates around the rim. He’s also not as athletic as other big men in the NBA and he’s not a great defender. Okafor also can’t stretch the defense which does not fit most offenses in the league.
On the other hand, it seems like Nerlens Noel has more value than Okafor at the moment. Both players have been shopped but the Sixers prefer trading the much-younger Okafor that Noel.
“Noel might actually end up having more trade value because he does some things in the modern NBA, his ability to defend multiple positions, his shot-blocking, his ability to finish on the break, that make him perhaps a more attractive option right now,” Ford said, via Liberty Ballers.
The Sixers are hoping to get the No. 3 pick from the Celtics but Boston are also linked with better players such as Jimmy Butler and Kevin Love. Philadelphia has a big logjam in the middle with Okafor, Noel, Joel Embiid and the incoming first overall pick, probably Ben Simmons.
The 2016 NBA Draft is less than a week away and the Sixers are still expected to move either Okafor or Noel. Besides the No. 1 pick, Philly also has the 24th and 26th overall pick in the draft.
