NBA Rumors: Three-way trade suggests Nerlens Noel to Timberwolves, Brandon Knight to 76ers and Ricky Rubio to Suns?

Clearly, the Philadelphia 76ers are doing their best to arrange a trade that would send one of their big men, Nerlens Noel, to other teams. Rumors are now swirling that Noel will be involved in a three-way trade.

The trade suggestion is to have Noel sent to the Timberwolves for Ricky Rubio, who will be shipped to the Phoenix Suns, and get Brandon Knight to the Philadelphia 76ers. It is a known fact that the 76ers want a point guard who could not only space out the floor, but also score. That is why for the trade to work for all, Knight should be involved as well.

Rubio lacks the scoring ability, despite reports that the Timberwolves is bringing in a coach who will keep an eye on Rubio’s development. But despite his lack of a scoring threat, Rubio still finishes with a decent average of 10.1 points, 8.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Though Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor stated that they will not trade Rubio, but the mere fact of getting a big man who could size up with other teams might get him to reconsider his early decision.

Noel is a young, upcoming star and Tom Thibodeau could very well guide him. He could be a worthy investment considering what Thibodeau has done with the Chicago Bulls during his tenure with the team. But for the trade to ever happen, they must get the Suns to let go of Brandon Knight, who is a perfect fit for the 76ers.

Knight is a pesky point guard who could put in 19.6 points, 5.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He is the playmaker that the 76ers will need to space out the floor in offense and get the 76ers’ big men involved in every play.

The 76ers are running out of trade options for their big men and though this trade has not officially been discussed. Hopefully, the 76ers could get commitments from both the Timberwolves and Suns, which are also taking the rebuilding process this season. The trade could very well take them to the goals that they have each set for the new season as well.

Ben Simmons, Brandon Knight, Rob Covington, Dario Saric, Jahlil Okafor;; while slowly getting Joel Embiid back into the mix of things in hopes he eventually becomes the starting All-Star center that he has the potential to be… Sergio Rodriguez & TJ McConnell sub in for Simmons at the point guard position;; Gerald Henderson & Jerryd Bayless veteran guards off the bench;; Jerami Grant & Richaun Holmes share time at the forward positions mostly for defensive purposes;; Nik Stauskas & Hollis Thompson are 3 point shooters, nothing more nothing less

Am i the only one that thinks this would be a pretty good team?? although i would much rather trade Okafor and keep Noel

    • Rickonthemobile

Noel sucks shoots like a 7th grader….defensively way overrated..

      • Keb0

Noel doesn’t suck.. shooting has never been a strong point of his game.. he is valuable for his defensive skills and ability to block shots and rebound

        • Rickonthemobile

Can’t guard anybody, cheats on his man for steals giving up dunks,, spastic, hands of stones, wastes time at top of the key, plays volleyball, can’t offensive rebound, is always on the floor, hurt, can’t set a pick, can’t catch and shoot, can’t pass, big men ( and its a large list) own him, 6 th pick, averages a basket a quarter and two free throws, all while blocking James Harden who beats 3 players and he comes from the weakside…sorry… Nobody is scared of Noel…and his 10 wins..trade him..

          • Cricket

Do you watch Noel every game? Because I do. He can pass for a big man, he is not overrated on the defensive end at all. First rookie since David Robinson to be in top 15 in steals and blocks. He can not shoot you are correct about that. But he doesnt have stone hands. He is very athletic for a big, can run the floor, and he is a difference maker on the defensive end of the court.

          • Rickonthemobile

I do watch him, he is terrible in traffic. He has stone hands as he can’t handle any pass below his chest.. He and the coaching staff are an embarrassment on offense as he stands at the top of the key, sets a half pick or he rolls to catch a lop passs to dunk. . While he isn’t rolling to the basket, he passes with his head down away from the basket, running down and wasting the shot clock. His offensive game is a joke. He practices a jump hook and never shoots it. They run no plays for him because it is that bad. As far as defense…he stops no big men. Kelly Olynyk had 31 on him. Cousins 39, and the list goes on. He’s athletic, but that doesn’t make him a defensive “stopper”. He can block shots, but its usually against smaller players on the weakside. 1.5 shoots blocks doesn’t change a game. He steals cause he continously leaves his man, which leads to open shots and dunks. Yes, i watch the constant timeouts as the Sixers defense stops nobody. How many times do you see him on the floor, hurt , and over matched. ? Alot. Most of his rebounds are defensive, compare him to Whiteside or Thompson. I would take Henson over him anyday of the week. He’s overrated and that’s why they are having a hard time trading him. Don’t believe the hype there is no revolution.

          • Cricket

You don’t watch him because he is a good defender. He deflects a lot of passes, has good foot work, he is a difference maker on defense. And everyone in the nba gets scored on. Demarcus averaged 27 last year he was scoring on everyone. Olynyk was making all his shots that game, it happens. Noel wasn’t on either for every single point they scored

          • Rickonthemobile

I watch him plenty…let this “good defender” hold his man to under his average,..that’s part of the reason his efficiency ratings is not good. DC had 39 on him..Olynyk scored 30 ..Jason Smith destroyed him…Why is Noel not guarding MG when they play Washington….because he can’t …he gets owned all along…his offense is awful while he concentrates on defense…he went into Boston and had 2 points… Said he was nervous. No he’s bad…..please he’s good at lob passes and cheating off his man for steals…thats his footwork..or he’s up in the air trying to block shots …then the opposition flys by and monster dunks …as Brown goes for the timeout…been watching Since 1977, No team fears the defensive of the Sixers… John Henson is a better player than him…says it all.

          • Keb0

i think he can be valuable on a team of good players…like the Cavs… Noel and especially Okafor would have been a great help for them in the finals

          • Rickonthemobile

He cant carry a team. As the six pick…his defense is overrated. He stops no big men…i have seen Jason Smith eat him up…terrible offense and he can’t consistently rebound on the offensive boards. Yes, he can block a weakside shot…yes he will run up and down the court and he can dunk…but he won’t win games…His player efficiency rating is not that good, He is the cause of many turnovers…on Cleveland he could be ok…they are not going to run plays for him…anybody improves when they play with Lebron..just ask MD who is now counting his millions cause of Lebron….Smh

          • Keb0

i never said he can carry a team. i def agree with you on that.. but for some strange reason, i can see him being a very valuable piece to a great team in the future. wether its the sixers, cavs, or someone else… he’s gonna be the 6th man off the bench n jus be that difference maker on defense

          • Rickonthemobile

Let me ask you a more important question…why isn’t Jack Sikma in the HOF?

          • Keb0

The Sonics won the Finals in ’79 i think, which was Sikma’s 2nd or 3rd year in the league. He was an All Star, but somebody else on that team was the Finals MVP. He was a key piece of a very good Sonics team for a few years, then went on to be a key piece of a very good Bucks team. But it just seems like he gets forgotten and overlooked behind players like Magic, Bird, Gervin, Kareem, Dominique, Worthy, Moses Malone, Doctor J, even a guy like Kevin McHale who besides Boston is not as well-known to the average basketball fan…

So basically when you think of centers/power forwards in the late ’70s and early ’80s: you think of Dominique, Kareem, Moses… then the mid 80s comes around and Michael Jordan takes over… And as for the big men, you get guys with unforgettable character who stand out more such as Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, followed by the 90s Tim Duncan, Shaq, etc etc… … … …

Its F’ed up, but that about sums up the answer to the question…

          • Rickonthemobile

Gus Williams…followed by Dennis Johnson…good for you, nicely done, is he in or out considering Yao is in with half the points and no rings…???? I say in …no doubt

          • Keb0

Yeah, Dennis Johnson! wow.. had to go back and watch some youtube highlights of him…. how about those passes, threading the needle to Bird.. i forgot he was on the Sonics

I was born in ’91 ;; so all of these guys wer wayyyy before my time… but as for Sikma, i vote “in” for sure… no doubt… i love his fade aways and form when he shoots 3s… just something you don’t see anymore and will probably never see again

          • Rickonthemobile

My friend you are a genius…his step back jumper would take your eyes out…deadly…its late go to bed…lol thank you youtube

  • John

Why would the Wolves want another stiff to sit on the bench? 76rs fans so desperate to get a point guard. Maybe they should of drafted one. P.s.- Timberwolves are set at point guard. So why in the hell would they trade?

    • Cricket

Because you have to many point guards. Noel is not a stiff, with that comment doubt you ever saw him play. So the sixers were supposed to draft a pg at number 1 instead of Simmons??? Next years draft is stacked with pgs, sixers will draft one then.

  • wwbuilder

This trade is not going to happen. Why would the Suns trade a guy who scored 20 a game for a guy who scored 10?

    • Joel

Ah the suns could have one of the best dimers in the league if they got Rubio and u have Booker who is a great shooter.Way more to the game then scoring.

  • Bobby Measures Christie

The Suns will NOT trade unless they receive a PF or C. Suns don’t want Rubio. They want Taj Gibson, Okafor, or Noel.

So where is the source of the rumors. Let’s cover the quality of the info even before we talk about if it’s good for whatever team. The Knight to Philly rumor was in June. So I hope I wasn’t misled to this article and it’s advertising based on web page traffic to get old information with no sources. Also, Knight is described as “pesky.” That is a defensive quality, not offensive. Knight is not known as a defender, and a persky defender is one who is constantly in your shirt. This website, Inquisitor, and Yibada are getting annoying. Without better quality writing, I mightt have to ignore their website results when I enter “76ers news” into my searches.
