NBA Rumors: Timberwolves likely to trade for Jahlil Okafor?

The Minnesota Timberwolves are building themselves up for the future and rumors are swirling that they would send trade offer to acquire the services of Philadelphia 76ers big man Jahlil Okafor.

While it is true that 76ers Bryan Colangelo hinted that they would want to clear out some space on their roster, the Timberwolves are hoping that they could snag Okafor to be able to build a solid rebounder inside the paint. The Timberwolves could offer any of its players, except for Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, in the probable trade.

The Timberwolves are looking at Tyus Jones, Shabazz Muhammad, Gorgui Dieng, and Adreian Payne who could make a great combination for a trade to get Okafor from the 76ers’ end. Having Okafor under Tom Thibodeau is like seeing a Carlos Boozer-like in the making.

Although health issues will be of a concern for Okafor as he is now on the road to recovery from a knee surgery, the 76ers are making things light for him as he is also restricted from contact scrimmage with the US national team that will see action in the Rio 2016 Olympics next month.

“Everything is going well. I’m healthy. I’m back. I worked out with some coaches today. It was fun,” Okafor said last week after their 85-77 loss to the Warriors in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Colangelo added that having Okafor out of scrimmage is for the “best interest” of everyone. He added that Okafor does workout and is all praises for Okafor’s determination to get back into action. But he hopes that Okafor would be back in great shape before their training camp starts.

“Jahlil has been in the gym working hard and has made great strides in his recovery and return to action, but he’s simply not in the kind of basketball condition required to compete at this level of competition. Our sports science and the medical team feels that holding him out of scrimmage situations is in everyone’s best interest at this point of the summer,” Colangelo said.

With that news, the Timberwolves are still hoping to give the 76ers an offer that they could not resist. The Timberwolves need enforcers inside the court and sees Okafor as a potential rim protector while the 76ers need a point guard and a wing man that could spread out their offense on the floor as they are now saturated with big men on their roster.

The Timberwolves might want to speed up their offer as other teams are also thinking of making a move on Okafor. The 76ers would want to trade some of their big men to bring balance to their roster and offers from teams such as the Timberwolves is worth looking at as well.
