NBA Rumors: Warriors adding big man and former lottery pick Emeka Okafor

The Golden State Warriors have already the strongest line-up on paper entering the 2016-2017 NBA Season. But the team is not done with their roster moves and are rumored to be linked to center Emeka Okafor, who’s attempting an NBA comeback.

The Warriors feature two-time MVP Stephen Curry and superstar Kevin Durant plus All-Stars Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. However, by stealing KD from the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State had to let go of some key pieces that was crucial to their NBA Finals run the last two seasons.

Getting Emeka Okafor could be big for the Warriors especially if the former second overall pick (2004 NBA Draft) can prove that he has game left in his career.

The 33-year-old Okafor, who is attempting to return to the league, last played for the Washington Wizards in the 2012-2013 season after stints with the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans from 2004 to 2012.

Gone now are Leandro Barbosa, Festus Ezeli, Harrison Barnes, Marreese Speights and Andrew Bogut as they joined rivals Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers and other Western Conference teams.

The departure of the big men, Ezeli and Bogut is seen as a key thing why the Warriors could struggle in the next NBA season despite the presence of their stars. They still need rebounding and shot-blocking and both Ezeli and Bogut provided that the last two years.

Okafor could provide rebounding and shot-blocking and replace the numbers from Ezeli and Bogut in limited minutes. Okafor averaged 9.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks the last season he played in the NBA.

Currently, the other big men in the Warriors roster are David West, James Michael McAdoo, Zaza Pachulia and Anderson Varejao. They also have JaValee McGee on a training camp deal plus other prospects like Kevon Looney, Damian Jones and Mamadou Ndiaye.
