NBA Trade Rumors: Rudy Gay heading to Los Angeles Clippers as their starting SF?

Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Los Angeles Clippers who are reportedly interested in acquiring Rudy Gay of the Sacramento Kings to be their starting small forward next season. The 29-year-old forward expressed his disappointment over the Kings’ moves this offseason.

“I have no idea,” he said about where the team is headed. “I suit up and give it my all. That’s all I can do in this situation, that’s all you can do. Go out there and play as much as you can. Obviously, we don’t have anything to really build on.

The Sacramento Kings are expected to build around their superstar center DeMarcus Cousins. However, in the recent NBA draft, Kings traded the 8th overall pick to Phoenix Suns for a package that included the 13th and 28th picks. The Kings selected 7-foot-1 Georgios Papagiannis and 6-foot-11 Skal Labissiere.

DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay were obviously not in favor of this move. The Kings were supposed to select players that will bolster their backcourt but still choose big men who have the same position as ‘Boogie’. There were previous rumors that Rudy Gay wanted to be traded somewhere else but the management is not yet finding the right trade partner.

Rudy Gay has been included in trade rumors involving the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and the Boston Celtics. However, the Clippers are not buying the idea of trading Blake Griffin. Still, rumors are circulating that the Clippers want to acquire Rudy Gay.

Tom West of Clipperholics revealed that Rudy Gay is a fan of the Los Angeles Clippers. The 29-year-old small forward said that he wants the stability that he sees from Paul Pierce and Jamal Crawford. He pointed out that the only team that could offer the kind of stability are the Clippers.

The Los Angeles Clippers are one of the NBA teams who tried to sign Kevin Durant. The Clippers almost have a solid starting lineup but still need to upgrade the small forward position. Rudy Gay will be a good alternative to that role.

Rudy Gay averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds last season. Gay might have flaws in both ends but Doc Rivers will surely find a way to improve his performance. However, the problem will be the trade assets they are willing to sacrifice to acquire him.

If Paul Pierce decided to play next season, he can be traded together with J.J. Redick to the Kings. This trade scenario works in the ‘ESPN Trade Machine’. However, everyone knows that Redick is a valuable player on the Clippers’ roster.

The Los Angeles Clippers still hold the decision whether they want to start the 2016-17 NBA season with the current roster they have. With most NBA teams trying to upgrade their roster, the Clippers must start doing their own move.
