December is supposed to be a time for everyone to enjoy the Christmas spirit, but not for the NBA. Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers will be hosting Brandon Ingram and the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 16.
It will be a matchup to watch with this year’s top two picks hoping to showcase their skills against each other. The 76ers have plans of putting Simmons into action and placing him in various positions to make him a well-rounded player while Ingram is foreseen as the next Magic Johnson.
It will be an interesting match since the top two rookies will be compared on how they will run down the floor and their contribution to their respective teams. It will also be the time for the Lakers’ young core to show to the fans that they are ready to carry the torch that was passed down to them by Kobe Bryant. The game will highlight some of the best picks that both teams had taken under their wings.
Aside from Simmons and Ingram, fans can also watch how other top picks namely D’Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor perform while rookies Ivica Zubac and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will also be an interesting match since both were teammates in a team in Serbia last year.
It will be a long road trip for the young Lakers as aside from the 76ers they will be visiting Toronto, Memphis, Houston, Sacramento, Brooklyn, Cleveland, Charlotte, Miami, and Orlando. Their home games will have matches against Utah (twice), Phoenix, New York, Clippers, and Dallas.
It will be a crazy December for all teams, especially for the Lakers as expectations are high for them to make an impact which will be the start of the post-Kobe Bryant era. It is worth noting that its young core will be tested down the road with Ingram getting his chance to prove if he is ready to be named as the face of the franchise this season.
For Simmons, it will be the time to prove why he is the top overall pick in this year’s rookie class. Pressure will be mounting but Simmons stated that he is ready to take it on and live to the expectations that made him the sought after pick this year.
