LaMarcus Aldridge Trade Rumors: Spurs considers trading Aldridge for DeMarcus Cousins?

San Antonio Spurs big man LaMarcus Aldridge suddenly grabbed the headlines this week as his performance this season will decide his future. Rumors are swirling that Aldridge being with the Spurs might be cut short and a trade for DeMarcus Cousins could take place.

According to Bleacher Report, sources stated that if Aldridge continues to struggle with his performance in the first half of the season, he could be traded. Many see that Aldridge is still trying to find his ways in the Spurs’ system.

Aldridge better finds his spot in the team fast as NBA insiders Jackie MacMullan and Zach Lowe predicts a pending trade by the Feb. deadline. MacMullan noted that the Spurs experiment in taking in Aldridge failed to meet their expectations. Meanwhile, Lowe explains that if the team could not outperform the post-Tim Duncan era then calls might be made to ship Aldridge.

The Spurs want Aldridge to dominate the shaded area the way he dominated it during his tenure with the Trail Blazers. Aldridge averages 20 plus points in his last five seasons with the Blazers but only manage to average 18.0 points with the Spurs.

If a trade with Cousins would take place by the middle of the season, the Spurs are looking at a solid and legitimate center. Cousins could very well play with Tony Parker and be the next top scoring machine following Kawhi Leonard.

Compared to Aldridge, Cousins numbers are far too better with 26.9 points with 11.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks a game. Getting him would be a perfect fit for the Spurs not to mention that he already established a relationship with Spurs coach Greg Popovich with Team USA in the Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro.

Aldridge has shown in the preseason games that he can still finish in double-digits and exert himself as the next top scorer for the Spurs. But going into this season will be the real test for Aldridge if would manage to meet all expectations. If not, a trade for Cousins, which is also plausible, could be the next thing for the Spurs.
