Isaiah Thomas led the Boston Celtics back to the win column even though one of their star players is out again. The Celtics beat the Miami Heat, 112-104 with the C’s point guard finishing with 25 points.
Boston was without Al Horford due to personal reasons. But Thomas and the Celtics had an easy time against the visiting Heat team, one of the worst teams in the league this season.
Lots of help for Thomas
Tyler Zeller started for Horford and had 10 points and 7 rebounds while Jae Crowder scored 17. Avery Bradley helped out in the scoring (18 points) and two others, Kelly Olynyk (14 points) and Marcus Smart (12 points) also contributed for Boston.
The Celtics have won four of their previous five games. The only loss came against West powerhouse San Antonio Spurs in their last game.
The Heat’s Goran Dragic returned from his injury to score 27 points and dish out 17 assists. But the Celtics’ defense was too much in the second quarter with Boston outscoring Miami, 27-12 in that period.
Thomas had an awful time shooting in this one but had 8 assists and was perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw area. The Celtics hit 11 three-pointers and the Heat were just 6-of-30 (20%) from the arc.
Heat continue struggles
The Celtics led 48-31 at halftime and the Heat never seriously threatened in the second half. Hassan Whiteside had a double-double of 25 points and 17 rebounds plus two blocks for the Heat.

Miami now holds a 5-12 win-loss card, just ahead of the league-worst Brooklyn Nets (4-12), Philadelphia 76ers (4-14) and Dallas Mavericks (3-13).
The Heat will try to bounce back on the road in their next game when they visit the Denver Nuggets. Meanwhile, the Celtics face the Detroit Pistons in their next outing.
