Jeremy Lin is the newest point guard of the Brooklyn Nets but he has something to prove with his new team and the entire NBA. In a recent interview, Lin revealed that he wants to surpass the things he did with the New York Knicks back in the days of “Linsanity.”
“That’s a huge thing for me because in free agency I kind of said I want to see how great I can become. I’ve played a lot of different roles. I’ve sacrificed for a lot of teams I’ve been on in the past. I’ve taken smaller roles to try to help the team succeed. Now I have that chance to take a much bigger role and be a much bigger part,” Lin told The Associated Press.
The 27-year-old has a big task ahead as the Nets are expected to be one of the worst teams in the NBA. He will have to work alongside center Brook Lopez perfectly to make the team very competitive. They can’t also rely on the future since Brooklyn has no first-round picks until the 2019 draft.
However, Lin is confident about the things that could happen in the new chapter of his career and he compared free agency to investing in a startup company. He will be working alongside former Knicks assistant coach and new Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson.
In an interview with the New York Post earlier this year, the Harvard product credited Atkinson for the success of “Linsanity” in 2012. He said that the former Knicks assistant was very supportive and helpful in his development as a player.
Only one player might have a bigger chip on his should other than Jeremy Lin, and it’s 2013 first overall pick, Anthony Bennett. The Nets are his fourth team in as many years. He has been plagued by conditioning and confidence issues but he is looking prove to everyone that he is not a total bust.
