Here Kevin Durant had strong words for the outspoken Dallas Mavericks’ owner for his comments on Russell Westbrook. Mark Cuban earlier told the reporters that Kevin Durant is the only superstar on the Oklahoma City Thunder roster; Durant’s compatriot Russell Westbrook is far from becoming a superstar of the league.
“He’s an All-Star, but not a superstar,” Cuban said of Westbrook. He further explained: “the Thunder didn’t do much when Durant went down with injury last year, so if Westbrook can’t carry a team by himself—no matter how poorly constructed it was—he can’t be a superstar.”
The Thunder ousted the Mavericks from the playoffs by wrapping up the series in game 5. And Durant retaliated with harsh words in the post-match press conference.
“He’s an idiot,” Durant said of Cuban. “He’s an idiot. Don’t listen to … he’s an idiot. That’s what we’ve got to say about that. He’s an idiot. Next question.”
Westbrook put up a stellar show in game 5 to answer Cuban. He returned with 36 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists to guide OKC to the next round of the playoffs, as reported by the USA Today. Durant added 33 points for the winners tally, as his side comfortably clinched the series 4-1.
“Now he gets to go home, do whatever he needs to do to get ready for next year to sit down and watch 82 more games like he did this year.” A delighted Westbrook said of his detractor after giving his side a telling blow on the court.
Durant’s OKC will now lock horns with the title contenders, San Antonio Spurs in the next round.
