Kevin Love trade to the Lakers: Cavaliers to get Calderon, Williams, and Randle?

Cavaliers to get Calderon, Williams, and Randle?

The Cleveland Cavaliers are bringing back its core to begin their title defense when the NBA season officially starts. However, the Cavaliers are not spared from trade rumors that suggest Kevin Love be shipped to the Los Angeles Lakers.

In the reported deal, Love would go to the Lakers in exchange for Jose Calderon, Lou Williams, and Julius Randle. Though the trade rumors may sound plausible, the Cavaliers would not want to get rid of its key pieces and start from scratch anew.

However, considering the trade would have a good effect on the Cavaliers are they would have more options especially bringing depth to their bench. During their Finals series against the Golden State Warriors, it was obvious that the Cavaliers needed players coming off the bench. Now that they have cut ties with J.R. Smith, the Cavaliers will have to dig deep to find suitable replacements.

After its starting five, the Cavaliers are really short-handed in its cavalry and if they would consider the trade having Calderon, Williams and Randle is not a bad idea. Calderon could be an alternative to Irving as he brings in a decent 7.6 points, 4.1 assists and 3.2 rebound a game.

Aside from Calderon, Williams as well is a strong player who could produce off the bench with his average of 15.3 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 rebound averages. While the Cavaliers look to Chris Anderson and Iman Shumpert as wingmen, having a Randle could also stabilize their second unit as he averages 11.3 points and 10.2 rebounds.

For the Lakers, it’s no secret that they are looking for potential leaders for its young core and getting Love would be addressing it. Love has a lot of leadership skills back when he was playing for Minnesota. Those skills could be put to good use especially with the Lakers roster under Luke Walton and Brian Shaw.

Luckily for the Lakers Love still has movement on both ends of the floor. He could also spread the floor as he could attract his defender further out of the shaded area which will give the other big men of the Lakers to work.

Whether they or they do not entertain this reported deal is basically up for both the Cavaliers and Lakers to decide. With the ongoing preseason, both teams are hoping to reach their respective goals. For the Cavaliers, it’s another championship run while for the Lakers it’s to overachieve themselves from the earlier seasons they had.
