D’Angelo Russell of the Los Angeles Lakers has been linked with plenty of trade speculations in the past several days with the 2016 NBA Draft looming. According to the latest Lakers rumors, Russell is not worried about the trade talks as general manager Mitch Kupchak assured him that he won’t be moved.
The Lakers were reportedly trading the 20-year-old guard and they were looking for a top five selection in this year’s draft. However, it has been confirmed that the Lakers are not shopping him but they are open to discussions.
In an interview with Serena Winters of Lakers Nation, Russell was asked about the NBA rumors surrounding his name this offseason. The Ohio State product answered that he is not concerned about them since his GM told him not to worry about it.
“No. When you hear trade talks and then you get a text from your GM talking about how he trusts your work ethic and don’t worry about this. You have nothing to worry about,” Russell said.
According to SB Nation, the Lakers are not as frustrated with Russell’s maturity as they used to be. It should be noted that the whole Nick Young video controversy happened just several months ago.
On the other hand, the former second overall pick is excited to play for new head coach Luke Walton next season. The former Warriors associate coach is expected to bring the same uptempo style in Los Angeles.
The Lakers are full of young and talented players like Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, and probably Brandon Ingram. The team is not a playoff contender but their future is very bright considering the dark reality of the past three seasons.
Nonetheless, fans should expect more NBA rumors about Russell as the draft draws near. The 2016 NBA Draft is on Thursday, June 23 and the Lakers have the second overall pick.
