NBA Draft Rumors: Celtics, Heat and Grizzlies showing interest with NBA draft prospect Zhou Qi

NBA rumors are now swirling around the 20-year old NBA draft prospect Zhou Qi, whom the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and the Memphis Grizzlies are eyeing for, in the upcoming 2016 NBA draft.

The 7-foot-2 NBA hopeful, Zhou Qi, from China, is expected to land in late first-round pick and some NBA teams are already lining up to sign him for their team. However, the young Chinese will be facing some minor problem, since he is not used to communicating in English.

He is a big man with an impressive shooting skill that can be compared to Dallas Mavericks veteran Dirk Nowitzki. Despite his towering height, Zhou Qi only weighed 218 pounds, which makes him an easy opponent in the post even with an average-sized power forward in the league. However, he said that he is continuously working out and added that he gained 10 pounds in the recent weeks.

Many have seen the potential of the 20-year old Chinese basketball player when he joined the Chinese National team and became the FIBA Asia Champions when they defeated the Philippines in the final round of the tournament. Zhou’s performance in the offensive and defensive end make him more qualified to play in the NBA.

According to abc News, the Boston Celtics and the Memphis Grizzlies brought him in for a workout this week and he is expected to audition for several NBA teams as the 2016 NBA draft draws near.

“I think his basketball English was good enough that it didn’t impede us from doing anything on the court,” Grizzlies vice president of basketball operations John Hollinger said after their workout. “I mean, obviously, we weren’t having detailed discussions about politics and economics or anything. … Very skilled for his size, very long frame, knows how to play.”

The Miami Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon was also impressed with Zhou’s performance way back last year at the Nike Hoop Summit. He described him as a big guy that can catch and has shooting skills. Since the Heat is threatened to lose Whiteside in the off-season, there is a greater possibility that they will be looking for a replacement center in the 2016 NBA draft.
