Croatian Dario Saric playing in the NBA has stirred new rumors around the league as the Philadelphia 76ers are said to be doing the paperworks to bring in the prized rookie for next season.
The 22-year old power forward listed as six-foot-10 was drafted 12th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic but was immediately traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Elfrid Payton. After the draft, Saric stated that he planned on playing in Europe for at least one more year, but promised that he would eventually play in the NBA.
Having the worst record in the NBA at 10-72, the 76ers are hoping to get the much needed help with Saric manning the paint providing the stability needed by the team. But it takes more than a Saric to turn things with the 76ers as they need to also put in place a formidable line up if they want to make an impact next season.
But the 76ers are getting desperate as they are now busy working on buying out Saric’s contract with his Turkish team Anadolu Efes, which is playing the Euroleagues wherein he averaged 9.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
David Pick reported that Saric has told his teammates that he will be leaving their team and honor the obligation with the 76ers. After receiving the news that Saric is now interested to play in the NBA, the 76ers event sent one of its assistant coaches to verify the news and came back with good news.
However, the 76ers need to work out Saric’s contract since it is still abides the rookie pay cut and they need to modify it for it to look appealing for the Croatian national. Analysts stated that the 76ers might offer a three-year contract worth $16 million plus guarantees once Saric sets foot in the USA.
Aside from playing the Euroleagues, Saric is also a member of the Croatian national squad playing in the FIBA World Cup and Euro Basket 2015. Saric is the son of Predrag and Velesinka Saric. Predrag Saric is former basketball player who plays during 1980s for KK Šibenik alongside Drazen Petrovic.
