Kevin Durant will be one of the highly pursued free agents this summer and rumors are swirling that he would reconsider the offer of the Boston Celtics if they would be able to build a “Big Three” of sorts in their roster. Durant is also rumored on demanding that Al Horford is included in the Celtics list to sign this summer.
Though nothing has been official, a word is spreading that Durant will opt for summer to get a maximum deal out of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but nonetheless, teams like the Celtics might be able to snag the 2014 MVP if they would be able to meet his demands. The Celtics already have Isaiah Thomas as they lead play orchestrator and with the addition of Horford and Durant, the Celtics could be a formidable team next season.
In an interview with WEEI, Butch Stearns of FOX 25 stated that the Celtics met with Durant agent and representatives to discuss options that could be explored to give them a shot at signing the 27-year old seven-time NBA All-Star player. Stearns added that Durant is looking for a team that could be able to group a LeBron James-Chris Bosh-Dwyane Wade-like way team.
“I have this on pretty good authority: The Celtics have sat with his agent and other representatives of Durant. The Celtics do know — I don’t know who it is — but they do know who he would prefer to be brought here in a LeBron James-Chris Bosh-Dwyane Wade-like way. Because that’s how it works in the NBA. You need to know who the guy or guys that that guy wants, which would be a factor. Now, I don’t know if Durant’s told them that. But the Celtics know. They know. They’ve been told what group of guys he would want to come here,” Stearns said.
In Al Horford’s case, the Atlanta Hawks are doing their best not to lose Horford in the free agency. The Hawks are making Horford their top priority this summer, but not with a seemingly offers from other teams such as the Celtics and the Lakers. A. Sherrod Blakely believes that the Celtics have a shot at landing Horford into their roster as the Hawks are also making some backup plans like taking with the Philadelphia 76ers in a possible trade for Nerlens Noel for Jeff Teague if Horford decides to leave.
Aside from Horford, the Celtics are also planning to get Chicago Bulls Jimmy Butler to finally complete their supposed “super team” that would surely entice Durant to move with them. But the finality of all things will still be on Durant and if he decides to take the maximum offer that the Thunder could give him.
If all things fall into play, then the Celtics will be one of the winners of this summer’s negotiations.
