NBA Rumors: Al Horford set to join the Houston Rockets as Dwight Howard’s replacement

NBA rumors are now circulating around the Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford who is set to join the Houston Rockets when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Al Horford is the top target of the Houston Rockets to replace Dwight Howard as their starting center. The dispute between the Rockets and Howard are continuously swelling and there is a higher possibility that he will leave the team in the off-season.

According to Calvin Watkins of ESPN, Rockets owner Leslie Alexander and general manager Daryl Morey believes that Harden will play a role in hiring a coach and potentially sign free agents.  On the other hand, Howard is expected to become a free agent and seeking a new team in the off-season.

“Howard is frustrated because he believes Harden doesn’t respect him enough. Howard texts former teammates asking what can be done to solve the problems. That same poor dynamic between Harden and Howard, and the inconsistent play of others have hurt Bickerstaff, who took over 11 games into the season when Alexander fired McHale.”

Interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who served as Kevin McHale’s temporary replacement, called the Houston Rockets a ‘broken team’. He emphasized the team’s lacks chemistry especially with James Harden and Dwight Howard. Howard wanted to be the main focus on the offensive end. He wanted to receive more balls than Harden. He added that it was affecting how he played on the defensive end.

It was not the first time that Howard had a dispute with another NBA superstar. In the Los Angeles Lakers where he teamed up Kobe Bryant, they were also having a hard time providing chemistry leading to a poor team performance.

Al Horford will be the best replacement for Dwight Howard as the Rockets center. Knowing his performance in the recent playoffs, he can be a great addition to the Rockets roster. Horford is not the type of player who demands the ball, which makes him best fit for Rockets superstar James Harden.

The Houston Rockets will be having enough salary cap even if Al Horford demands a maximum contract in free agency. Horford has led the Atlanta Hawks to the NBA playoffs for eight times and he was considered one of the most dominant big man in the league.

When Al Horford enters the free agency market, there will surely be many suitors that will be lining up to sign the Hawks center. Before Horford is grabbed by other NBA teams, the Houston Rockets should be starting to make their moves to acquire him for their team’s future.
