Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo is having a very good postseason against the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to the latest NBA rumors, Biyombo is expected to opt out his contract with the Raptors and many teams are reportedly willing to offer him an annual salary of $17 million.
The Congo native started his NBA career in 2011 when he was drafted seventh overall by the Sacramento Kings before getting traded to then-Charlotte Bobcats on the same night. However, he was a work in progress in Charlotte and the team eventually decided not to let him walk last summer.
Biyombo signed a modest two-year, $5.7 million deal with the Raptors last offseason. He proved quite effective as a backup center with season averages of 5.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in just 22.0 minutes per game.

However, an injury to Jonas Valanciunas in the midst of the Eastern Conference semifinals versus the Miami Heat forced the Raptors to start Biyombo. He helped Toronto eliminate the Heat in seven games and he was vital in tying the Eastern Conference finals at 2-2.
The 23-year-old showed his value through defense in Game 3 against the Cavaliers. He scored seven points, grabbed 26 rebounds and blocked four shots. In another Game 4 win, he had five points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.
According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, reported that the two games just increased Biyombo’s value in free agency. One Eastern Conference general manager told Deveney that teams will offer a contract with an annual salary of $16-17 million.
“For someone like (Biyombo), I think when you look at a guy like Tyson Chandler and what he got from Phoenix last summer (four years, $52 million), that’s where you start for a contract. But you factor in the cap spike and it’s probably going to be high, I’d say, $16-17 million. It’ll be a heck of a $17 million-per-year gamble,” the GM said.
