NBA Rumors: Blake Griffin to Boston? Celtics GM Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers talked twice this summer

The Boston Celtics are near to complete their roster for the 2016-17 NBA season. However, rumors are circulating that the Celtics are still open in making a blockbuster deal this summer. Will the Celtics push the trade for Blake Griffin?

The Boston Celtics are one of the NBA teams who dreamt of building a title contender team next season. In the recent free agency, the Celtics succeeded in acquiring Al Horford but failed to get their main target, Kevin Durant. However, Danny Ainge said that they are not done yet in upgrading their roster.

“We’re not done,” Ainge explained in Salt Lake City. “We have the same plans. If you don’t get what you want you have to keep fighting and make the best of it. Everybody wants Kevin Durant on your team and not everyone gets him.”

Last month, Danny Ainge and the Celtics brass were reportedly having an ‘unusual’ vacation in California where most NBA players were in, including Blake Griffin. The Clippers superstar has been involved in various trade rumors this offseason.

However, Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said that they are not going to break their ‘Big Three’. Since DeAndre Jordan, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin joined force to become the Clippers’ ‘Big Three’, they still failed to bring home a championship title.

In an appearance on The Vertical Podcast, Doc Rivers told Adrian Wojnarowski that the Clippers have no interest in trading Blake Griffin. Rivers blamed all the rumors from the Boston sports radio talk show but did not divulge any further details.

However, Doc Rivers admitted that he talked twice to Danny Ainge this summer. Could it be about Blake Griffin? Unfortunately for the Celtics fans, the answer is no.

“Danny [Ainge] and I have talked twice this summer,” Rivers said. “One was about the British Open, and one was about another golf tournament. That’s about it.”

Despite this revelation by Rivers, there are still some people who do not believe his statements.

Knowing Danny Ainge, he really means everything he says. Doc Rivers might have to hide the fact that Ainge confronted him to ask for Blake Griffin. The Boston Celtics currently have plenty of trade assets that can help the Los Angeles Clippers rebuild their roster.

Once the Clippers realize that they have no future with their ‘Big Three’, they might end up trading one of them and the Celtics could be their possible trade partner.
