Many experts feel that the Boston Celtics are one superstar away from being a title contender. The team made a stride to evolve as a good team of Eastern Conference. If they can rope in two superstars incoming free agency, the Celtics will emerge as the superpower in the NBA.
Kevin Durant will become a free agent this summer, and the former MVP of the league wants to win his maiden title. If the Celtics are eyeing to emerge as a super-team of the East, there is no reason for not being able to lure the Oklahoma City Thunder All-star with their title aspirations. The addition of Durant in their roster makes Boston the second best team in the East after Cavs. And the Celtics can build around him, which Durant will prefer at the peak of his career.
There are more silver linings for Boston. They have six first-round picks for the next two seasons, according to a recent report. They can consider trading all of them to rope in big names from the free agency. The Celtics have made it to the playoffs for two consecutive times, and could have advanced farther had injury not disabled them. Avery Bradley’s absence was a severe blow. But it’s time to look ahead to take control of a weak east. They can easily approach Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler or DeMarcus Cousins.
Securing one out of the above-mentioned three alongside Durant would buoy Boston considerably. The Celtics can aggressively pursue Anthony Davis. Pitching 3 or 4 first round draft picks may entice the New Orleans Pelicans to trade Davis. Many players on the Pelicans’ roster will hit the free agency this offseason. New Orleans may look to rebuild by trading off the 23-year-old power forward. With Davis coming in along with Kevin Durant, the Celtics surely become a challenger of the best team in the East and can dream of appearing in the NBA finals.
