Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics are said to be trading their third overall pick for Jahlil Okafor and the Sixers are eyeing to get Ben Simmons and Jamal Murray in the 2016 NBA draft.
The Boston Celtics first plan is to acquire Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls in order to lure Kevin Durant. However, things have changed after the Bulls expressed their intention to keep Butler.
Also, there is a higher chance that Kevin Durant will re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder and continue to play with his pal, Russell Westbrook.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers, who are considered one of the struggling teams in the NBA, are currently undergoing a rebuilding process and this includes a huge adjustment in their roster.
The Sixers have noticed the lack of chemistry between Jahlil Okafor and Nerlen Noels in the recent season. With this, they are thinking of trading one of them in order to acquire another franchise player that will shape their future in the league.
Since the Sixers are expected to grab Ben Simmons as the number one overall pick, there are speculations that they are also eyeing Jamal Murray in the upcoming NBA draft. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sixers Vice President of Player Personnel Marc Eversley shared that there is another player they could be considering for the top pick.
“Jamal Murray, we certainly got a chance to see him a couple of weeks ago. He’s certainly going to be one of those kids who’s going to be in contention for the No. 1 pick. We like him a lot. He’s going to bring a lot to wherever he goes in the NBA, certainly a talent.”
If the Los Angeles Lakers will be serious to get Brandon Ingram at number two then the Philadelphia 76ers can make a deal with the Boston Celtics to acquire Jamal Murray. According to John Gonzales of CSNPhilly.com, the Celtics became interested in acquiring Jahlil Okafor when the trade rumors exist.
“There were rumors that the Celtics wanted him at the trade deadline. Even without additional parts, the third pick might be enough for the Sixers to do a deal.”
If this happens, it will surely be for the benefit of both teams. Getting Ben Simmons and Jamal Murray will be the best option for the Philadelphia 76ers since they want to be a more competitive team next season. On the other hand, the Boston Celtics will be acquiring one of the promising centers in the league that will help them reach a higher level and become a title contender.
