Defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers sends a strong message that they are not trading Kevin Love yet. This came despite rumors swirling that not even DeMarcus Cousins’ name comes close to get them to swap Love.
Ever since the Cavaliers won their first franchise NBA title over the Golden State Warriors, Love has been the subject of criticisms. Speculations rose that the team would cut ties with Love either during the course of the league or towards the end of the summer.
But all speculations and rumors were once and for all flushed down the drain after the Cavaliers stated that they are not keen on trading Love.
Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders noted that sources close to the Cavaliers stated that there are no serious contenders who would want to absorb Love’s current contract. Love signed a five-year contract worth $113 million and that is one major reason for teams not to engage in a trade for the 27-year old and eight-year NBA veteran.
“While there is no shortage of suitors who would take on Love’s contract, sources close to the Cavs say moving him [Love] is not even remotely a consideration,” Kyler stated.
Many may see that Love is not a perfect fit for the Cavaliers, especially with both LeBron James and Kyrie Irving on the floor. But the Cavaliers will have to live with that as Love is not yet due for free agency through the 2019-2020 season.
Many have linked Love with a possible trade with Sacramento Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins, but the truth of the matter is that the Kings does not see that happening as well. The Kings want to refresh their relations with Cousins, who is considered as one of the cornerstones of the team.
With his achievement in the recent Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, the Kings hopes that Cousins could bring that energy to the team and lead them in the coming season.
With all the talks and rumors, it seems that Love is staying with the Cavaliers till the team feels the need to ship him out. Until that happens, Love will continue to help the Cavaliers in any way he can especially with their goal for next season which is to defend their crown.
