The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly interested in trading for center DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. There are speculations that the Cavs initially offered Kevin Love but the Kings declined the deal.
The Cleveland Cavaliers want to upgrade their roster after their rival Golden State Warriors recently acquired Kevin Durant. Steve Kyler of Basketball Insider revealed that the Cavaliers inquired about DeMarcus Cousins. However, it seems like the Sacramento Kings did not like the idea of trading their franchise player.
Kevin Love has been the center of trade rumors in the recent NBA Finals. His performance proved that he is not a good fit with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Instead of being a starter, Richard Jefferson replaced him, resulting for the Cleveland Cavaliers to win their first NBA championship title.
Kevin Love is not a bad player at all. In fact, he was the franchise player of the Minnesota Timberwolves before he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Love needed to make a huge adjustment in order to be fitted as a sidekick of LeBron James.
Meanwhile, it seems like the relation between DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings is not going well. The Kings center expressed his disappointment in the team’s pick in the 2016 NBA draft.
Instead of upgrading their backcourt, the Sacramento Kings drafted Skal Labissiere and Georgios Papagiannis giving them a very crowded frontcourt. The Kings recently lost guard Rajon Rondo and Seth Curry, who had good relation with DeMarcus Cousins.
If ‘Boogie’ will insist the trade, the Sacramento Kings have no choice but to let him go. Jason Marcum of SB Nation predicted that DeMarcus Cousins will still leave the Kings once his contract expires in 2018. If he is not happy with the team, keeping him does not make sense for the Kings.
The Cavaliers could offer Kevin Love and Iman Shumpert for Cousins. If the trade rumors become a reality, ‘Boogie’ will be an essential piece for the Cavaliers’ success in the 2016-17 NBA season.
