The Boston Celtics have the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and they reportedly narrowed down their choice to three prospects. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Celtics are drafting Buddy Hield, Dragan Bender or Kris Dunn with the third pick.
Boston has been working out with a lot of prospects for the past month since they have eight draft picks in the upcoming draft. Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram are the projected first two rookies to get selected while there is no clear third best player in the draft class.
In an interview with Green Street WEEI 93.7 FM, director of player personnel Austin Ainge revealed that they already have narrowed down their options for the third pick. He did not give any names but Hield, Bender, and Dunn are the clear choices.
“We’ve been narrowing at this point. We have them in groups more than specific (players). Maybe for our first pick we have it narrowed to these three or four guys, the second group a little bigger – eight or 10, because you don’t know whose going to be there. You do your best at guessing and debating the groups,” Ainge said.
It should be noted that Jamal Murray and Jaylen Brown are also possible third overall picks with the latter working out for the second time in Boston, per Darren Wolfson of ESPN. The Celtics are certainly looking for a player that will immediately have an impact on their team.
Told it’s Boston tomorrow where Jaylen Brown has been summoned. Distinct possibility: Dunn, Murray, Bender, Hield all left at 5. #twolves

Nonetheless, there is also the possibility of trading that third overall pick along with a number of assets for an established star. The Celtics have been linked with a number of star players such as Kevin Love, Paul George, Blake Griffin, and Jimmy Butler.
The 2016 NBA Draft will be on Thursday, June 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Besides the third overall pick, Boston also has 16h and 23 overall picks as well as five second round selections.
