NBA Rumors: Celtics to finally acquire Nerlens Noel from the Sixers?

Nerlens Noel of the Philadelphia 76ers has been linked with a trade to the Boston Celtics for quite some time now. The latest NBA rumors suggest that a one-on-one deal of Noel for Marcus Smart might work. However, is that really the best trade to do for both teams?

According to Michael Saenz of FanSided, this trade is the one that makes the most sense for both teams. The Celtics will get an athletic rim protector to shift Al Horford to his natural position while the Sixers finally have their point guard of the future.

Boston already has Isaiah Thomas at the point and it looks like he will be the team’s primary playmaker going forward. Even though Smart has the potential to be a really great player, he would not develop properly if he’s not regularly starting.

The Celtics can always deal Avery Bradley but he is far too important as a perimeter defender since Smart has not turned into one just yet. The team will look alright if they do not make the trade because they still have the two first round picks from the Nets, as well as third overall pick Jaylen Brown as trade baits.

On the other hand, the Sixers are in need of a point guard and getting Smart for Nerlens Noel would be a great deal. Philadelphia can always wait until the deadline to make a trade with other point guards such as Ricky Rubio being available.

The Celtics are very reluctant to break up their core but Danny Ainge is surely brewing a big trade and waiting for the right time to pull it. Adding Nerlens Noel will not make them title contenders and I think they can acquire him without sacrificing Marcus Smart.

They have Terry Rozier, who has a potential to be a really good starter, and adding the Nets’ 2018 first-round pick would do it. Nevertheless, these are just rumors and purely speculative at this point. What do you think? How can the Celtics acquire Nerlens Noel with trading Marcus Smart?

    No not a Smart move.

    Not smart I want bradley…

It would be nice to get Noel for a bucket of rocks meaning players like: James Young, R.J. Hunter or the atrocious pick we made at #16. I can’t even say the guys name. Guershon something 😉 Marcus Smart has potential and showed flashes in the playoffs shooting the ball better but often times plays out of control. His best attributes are his size, strength and ball handling ability. I wouldn’t be opposed to that trade if Noel is physically sound.

Sixers are not winning anything this yr why would they make a bad trade…they will not win much this Yr so why rush a trade? And if u were to rush a trade it’s not in division….

Your not getting Noel for a bucket of rocks lol….there is nothing forcing a trade….under salary cap and not winning this year….wait for a big man to go down b4 a trade….not trade for a bucket of rocks….wishful thinking

    NO Way Trade SMART.

If Celts knew how to draft players, they be looking great Right Now.
Passed on BUDDY Heild and the Center from North Carolina Brice Johnson
There scouting IS Horrible and considering the good picks the C’s had, nothing to show.
    Hey Austin Ainge, hire someone…

Ainge looks for players that can play both ends of the court, can play multiple positions, are team first players and will work hard to improve their game. Once that is understood, an evaluation of Ainge’s selections will make more sense. People whined about selections of Rossier and Jalen Brown, both of which will be much more impressive in a few years. Young was believed to be a good pick and he has failed to impress. I believe Smart will improve this next season and be worth more in a trade. Ainge will probable please Celtic’s fans with another trade before the season starts. Green will be a nice bench player.

Smart has been a game changer on defense. And that wins games. Sorry Charlestown.

Smart is not worth Noel.. Noel is not worth the Nets pick… none of these trades will ever happen

  • Jerry Heasley

Trade picks for Noel and keep Smart.

Smart is not good enough – the Sixers do not want a guard who can’t shoot. And they do NOT need a PG – they need shooters. You won’t get Noel without parting with at least a high pick or a shooter like Bradley
