The New York Knicks are headed to another disappointing season despite successfully creating a “Super Team” last summer. In the upcoming offseason, Derrick Rose and Carmelo Anthony are expected to leave, making Kristaps Porzingis the only Knicks star.

Last offseason, Knicks president Phil Jackson succeeded to surround Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis with quality players. Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee, and Brandon Jennings joined the Knicks to help them compete for the NBA championship title this season. Unfortunately, all of Jackson’s effort has gone to waste after his team failed to perform on what’s expected from a “Super Team.”

The season isn’t yet over for the Knicks as they still have 13 games to play. Unfortunately, they are already mathematically eliminated from entering the playoffs. According to Marc Berman of New York Post, the Knicks “Big Three” of Rose, Anthony, and Porzingis won’t be back next season.

Rose will become an unrestricted free agent next summer and is expected to demand a lucrative contract. As of now, the Knicks show no interest of bringing him back and are reportedly eyeing to sign Jrue Holiday as his replacement. Meanwhile, Berman believes Anthony will be on the trade market again this summer.

Jackson tried to move Anthony before the trade deadline but failed to find an ideal trade partner. The 10-time NBA All-Star is only willing to waive his no-trade clause for few teams. With the Knicks missing the playoffs for four consecutive seasons, it will be best for Anthony to leave. The Los Angeles Clippers emerged as the next potential destination for Anthony.

Kristaps Porzingis says Knicks aren’t good of a team

The possible departure of Derrick Rose and Carmelo Anthony makes Kristaps Porzingis as the Knicks’ lone star. When Jackson tried to move Anthony, most people expected Porzingis to be the next Knicks franchise player. Like his co-stars, the 19-year-old Latvian center/power forward is extremely disappointed with the team’s performance this season.

“I think it was pretty easy to tell from the inside that we’re not that good of a team,’’ Porzingis said at the team hotel. “We can win games based on our talent but it’s not going to last long. [We needed] more work, attention to details, to keep growing as a team. A good team needs time to play together. It was our first year of most of the guys playing together. It never happens like that [where] you trade a couple of players and you’re a championship contender. It’s understandable we weren’t going to win the championship, but I could tell we weren’t there yet.’’

Porzingis blamed the Knicks’ inconsistent game plan for their downfall. He also believed that their poor chemistry led to the nightmare season. With the Knicks expected to lose several players this summer, they will likely start all over again next season.
