Derrick Rose could be one of the free agent point guard targets for the New York Knicks in the 2016 offseason. According to NBA trade rumors, it is more likely for the Chicago Bulls to trade Rose than forward Jimmy Butler this offseason and an Eastern Conference team, the New York Knicks could consider a trade for the former NBA Most Valuable Player this summer.
Between the two, Butler has more value being a recent NBA All-Star making the team the last two seasons, in 2015 and 2016. Rose, who was the league MVP in 2011 and three-time all-star, from 2010 to 2012, has struggled with injuries in recent years and his value around the league is low.
Rose, who has an expiring contract of over $20 million for next season, could be acquired by the Knicks without giving up their core players in Kristaps Porzingis or Carmelo Anthony, according to the latest NBA trade rumors.
Depending on the decision of Derrick Williams and Arron Afflalo, both of whom have player options for the 2016-2017 season, the Knicks could open up salary cap space enough to chase multiple maximum contract free agents this summer.
If they acquire Rose in a trade, plus Porzingis and Anthony, New York could have a line-up next season that is good enough to battle for a postseason slot. A combination of Williams’ and Afflalo’s contracts plus Jose Calderon is the likely package in a trade with the Chicago Bulls for Derrick Rose.
Both the Bulls and Knicks are in rebuilding after failing to make the NBA Playoffs last season. Both are also involved in NBA trade rumors as they try to get players that will help them improve their chances next season.
