Dwyane Wade joined the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday in a move that is expected to shake up the Eastern Conference and stop the NBA rumors involving the veteran. But how good are the Bulls now with the veteran shooting guard along with other stars Jimmy Butler and Rajon Rondo?
Can the Bulls become one of the top teams to challenge LeBron James and the champion team Cleveland Cavaliers? Has Chicago turned itself to the same level as other top East teams like the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors?
What the Dwyane Wade free agency signing means for the Bulls
After dealing long time franchise player Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, the Bulls turned to Rondo in free agency and now adds Wade. Chicago now has an All-Star backcourt if the latter remains in form even at 34 years old.
Wade averaged 19.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists in his final season with the Heat.
Both Rondo and Wade played well last season with their respective teams, the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat. Both are also motivated to prove next season that they are not yet “past their prime.”
There was initial thought that Chicago was going to rebuild this summer and start with trading All-Star Butler for young prospects. NBA rumors had him linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston Celtics but no deal was finalized.
With the acquisition of Rondo and Wade, they turned to becoming one of the dark horse teams in the East and will challenge LeBron and the Cavs. They have a good front court with big men Robin Lopez, Nikola Mirotic
What the Dwyane Wade free agency signing means for the Heat
The move to Chicago simply means the Dwyane Wade era in Miami is over. And it ended badly with Wade and Pat Riley reportedly on a rift with regards to the contract negotiations.
For both teams, this was a move that will improve the team next season and upcoming years. The Bulls want to win this year while the Heat are setting up their future.
It will mark a new era for Miami, which will feature new franchise player Hassan Whiteside, Goran Dragic and Justise Winslow. This might also end the NBA rumors that Chris Bosh will return to the Heat as Miami wants a fresh start and rebuild after Wade left.
