34-year-old All-Star Dwyane Wade is reportedly ‘unhappy’ with the Miami Heat’s decision to give center Hassan Whiteside a four-year contract worth $98 million. There are rumors that Wade is intensifying talks with other NBA teams and does not intend to re-sign with the Heat.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical:
“The Heat’s initial offer of $10 million annually – which would’ve constituted a 50 percent pay cut from his $20 million 2015-16 salary – deeply angered Wade, league sources told The Vertical. Even with the Heat planning to counter to a higher figure, league sources said, Wade has been insistent on starting to explore the market and meet with teams once he returns from an overseas vacation, league sources said.”
There are speculations that the Miami Heat are currently in negotiations to bring Kevin Durant to their team. According to ESPN, Hassan Whiteside and Kevin Durant are the main priority of the Miami Heat in free agency. Recalling in the past years, Dwyane Wade sacrificed his salary and took pay cuts in order to help the Miami Heat manage their salary cap.
However, for a player who gave three championships, asking him to have pay cuts is obviously too much. Offering a $10 million annual salary will surely anger Dwyane Wade. This may give the signal that the 2015-16 NBA season will be last year of Wade in the Miami Heat.
Several teams have shown interest to sign Dwyane Wade in free agency. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical, four teams have offered Wade a two-three year deal and more than $20 million per season. These include Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, and Denver Nuggets.
Also, there are rumors about the possible reunion of Dwyane Wade with Cavaliers star forward LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The New York Knicks are also reportedly courting him to sign with their team since they really need a starter at the shooting guard position.
With the dispute currently circulating Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat, there is a higher possibility that Wade will be wearing another jersey next season.
