The Warriors recently announced the need for more stars to join the team for the next season. NBA rumors cited Elliot Williams and JaValee McGee are included in the list.
Joining the incredible roster, which currently features Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala, Williams and McGee signed for a one-year deal.
The agreement only covered a one-year contract with salary protection and minimum payment. Given that the two veterans possessed the skills the Warriors need, this move was seen as agreeable.
McGee averaged 8.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, while Williams with 28.4 points, 5.9 assists and 6.8 rebounds in 2015 D-League.
Nick Silva of ESPN noted that Williams’ outstanding performance in Santa Cruz paved the way for his future career in the NBA. In fact, he made 21 appearances in 2015-16 alone.
The six-foot-five shooting guard completed the roster as he will be serving as a reserved guard following the departure of Leandro Barbosa and Brandon Rush.
In addition, his familiarity with the Warriors’ game play was the biggest edge he had among the other contenders.
Warriors’ World tweeted that the Golden State has already given McGee a defined role as well as other big opportunities in the team.
“Golden State gives JaVale a defined role, vet leadership, superstar PG and great coaching staff. Opportunity for him to turn career around,” they wrote.
However, the acquisition of the two stars sounded ridiculous to some. According to Fox, the new additions might cause an odd dynamic to develop in the team.
The report mentioned that the seven-footer McGee could contribute huge numbers of blooper reels on court with the Warriors next season.
However, with the help of Zaza Pachulia and Anderson Varejao, his possible embarrassing moves could be covered.
