The Houston Rockets have identified their primary target in the 2016 offseason in Al Horford, according to the latest NBA rumors. The Rockets are still searching for their next head coach and lots of veteran names have been linked to Houston but getting a top free agent like Horford could speed up the process of rebuilding for the Rockets’ future.
According to Sporting News, a Rockets source said that “landing Hawks star Al Horford is the Rockets’ top-line goal in free agency.” The report also added that Ryan Anderson could be another free agent target and that the franchise will pursue a trade with star players Blake Griffin, Jimmy Butler or Carmelo Anthony, if they are available in the trade market.
The Rockets are desperate to add another star in the line-up as they struggled this season to make the playoffs and then disappointed in the first round series against the defending champions Golden State Warriors. This has started NBA rumors right after their season ended that major changes are coming in Houston this summer.
Adding Horford appears to be the best option for the the Rockets as he is an unrestricted free agent, which means he can sign with any team and his previous team has no choice but to let him go to his new squad. With a huge rise in salary cap for all NBA teams, most teams will have the chance to offer a maximum contract and could try to sign stars like Horford this summer.
It’s a different case for Griffin, Anthony and Butler, all of whom are still under contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls, respectively. However, Horford is also targeted by lots of NBA teams like the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets according to other NBA rumors.
Can the Rockets hit the jackpot this offseason and get a star like Al Horford, as per the new NBA rumors, and pair him alongside star James Harden for next season?
