NBA Rumors: Jahlil Okafor trade to Celtics nears as Dario Saric signs with Sixers

Dario Saric is expected to join the Philadelphia 76ers next season after reports that the Croatian prospect will sign a contract with the team in the next few days. The move will stir the NBA rumors that Jahlil Okafor is available via a trade as reports indicated in the early part of the 2016 offseason.

According to, the 22-year-old Saric will be joining his Sixers teammates in the NBA Summer League and is expected to finalize a deal with Philadelphia. The Croatian prospect has reportedly agreed to buyout agreement with Andolu Efes in the Turkish Super Basketball League in Europe and which allow him to join the NBA next season.

Saric, who was drafted as the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic but was dealt to the Sixers on draft day, played well in the recent Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Italy.

With Saric almost assured of joining the Sixers next season, Philadelphia will be looking to clear their crowded frontcourt.

Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel are the two Sixers involved in NBA rumors during the 2016 NBA Draft when Philadelphia picked Ben Simmons as the number one overall pick. There are also many reports linking Okafor to Boston, which has many guards and point guards in their roster.

Okafor averaged 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks for the Sixers in the 2015-2016 NBA Season.

Philadelphia has many big men in their roster and this includes Simmons, Okafor, Noel, Joel Embiid and Saric. However, they lack quality guards and could be perfect trade partners with the Celtics, which has Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier and Avery Bradley.

The Okafor to Boston trade makes sense for both sides and NBA rumors could happen anytime soon now that the Sixers have locked down Saric to an NBA contract.

Stop with the okafor trades, hes not a good fit with boston. Hes slow, no defense. Not a rim protector and cant shoot. 2 things the celtics need.

Okafor is going to be a fantastic player. I hope the Celtics don’t screw this up again. Could have had him for the 3rd pick. But I would trade either Bradley or Smart to get him now.

        Smart is garbage

He shot over 50% from the field and almost 70% from the line at 6’11” and 275 pounds. He was consistently double and triple teamed because the Sixers lack any perimeter shooting threats. Despite the defensive attention he converted at an over 50% clip. He is a very good shooter from 15 feet and in and uses his weight to move defenders off their spot very effectively. He is not fast- can’t have it all I guess- most guys approaching 300 pounds are not fast. Not sure that the Sixers will be interested in trading him for what the Celtics have to offer, nor should they be.
