Philadelphia 76ers are considering Jamal Murray with the top pick ahead of Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram for the June 23 NBA draft.
Most of the draft experts have rated LSU’s Ben Simmons and Duke’s Brandon Ingram as the two top projected draft picks. Philadelphia not taking either of them with their top pick is an intriguing new possibility. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer hinted in his recent report that the Sixers are eyeing talented guard Jamal Murray as their possible first overall pick.
“Jamal Murray, we certainly got a chance to see him a couple of weeks ago. He’s certainly going to be one of those kids who’s going to be in contention for the No. 1 pick. We like him a lot. He’s going to bring a lot to wherever he goes in the NBA, certainly a talent.” Pointed out Pompey.
Philadelphia’s plan to pick Murray would provide Los Angeles Lakers the golden opportunity to select much coveted Ben Simmons with their second overall pick. The Boston Celtics, who own the third pick will be thrilled to rope in a promising guy like Duke’s Brandon Ingram.
But one needs to keep in mind that the teams purposefully spread rumors in the pre-draft period regarding their preferences to mislead other franchises. As of now, the Sixers’ front office is tight-lipped about their plans. So, the notion that Philadelphia could pick Murray may be just another rumor.
Ben Simmons has recently revealed that he doesn’t have any problems in donning the Sixers’ colors in his first NBA season. So, all the possibilities regarding the top three picks appear to be equally likely now.
