NBA Rumors: Jeff Van Gundy eyeing to revive Ming-McGrady tandem with James Harden and Dwight Howard once elected as Rockets head coach

NBA rumors are now swirling the Houston Rockets who are reportedly hiring Jeff Van Gundy as their new head coach.

According to Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times, the Houston Rockets are getting close to deciding on their new head coach and Jeff Van Gundy is believed to be the frontrunner. Van Gundy has handled the Rockets from 2003-2007 so the atmosphere will not be different for him. The former Rockets coach can bring back the Yao Ming-Tracy McGrady tandem that once become an explosive duo in the NBA history.

The Houston Rockets started their search for the new head coach after the disappointing loss to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Though interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff is considered for the position, he decided to cut his name on the list of candidates for the Rockets’ head coach position.

There were previous reports saying the Bickerstaff’s decision on leaving the team was mainly because of the dispute between the Rockets’ stars James Harden and Dwight Howard.

If ever hired as new Houston Rockets head coach, Jeff Van Gundy should first manage to give chemistry to James Harden and Dwight Howard to increase their effectiveness in the court. According to a previous report, Howard said that he believed that he and his team-mate Harden will succeed together once they put down their pride and egos when they are on the court.

Jeff Van Gundy can revive the Yao Ming-Tracy McGrady duo with the two Rockets superstars and if that happens the Rockets will surely be achieving a higher level next season. Once Van Gundy gives the right chemistry for Harden, Howard and the team, the Rockets will surely be a more competitive and a more different team that will enter the 2016-17 NBA season.
