Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Asian-American guard Jeremy Lin who is expected to leave the Charlotte Hornets and seek for a new team in the off-season.
Jeremy Lin signed a two-year deal worth $4.374 million with the Charlotte Hornets before the start of the 2015-16 NBA season and he has a player option for the 2016-17 NBA season. This means that there is a possibility that Lin could explore the free agency market and play for a new franchise next season.
Once Jeremy Lin enters the free agency market, there will surely be lots of teams who will be lining up in order to get his service, including the New York Knicks. According to a report from CBS Sports, the decision of the Knicks to hire Jeff Hornacek as their new head coach may lead up to the reunion of Jeremy Lin with his former team.
“With the triangle out, the Knicks will need a traditional point guard. One rival executive suggested Thursday that the Hornacek hiring could pave the way for Linsanity Part II; Hornets point guard Jeremy Lin has a player option this summer in a massive free-agent market and is coming off his best season since leaving New York as a restricted free agent in 2012.”
It is undeniable that the Asian-American guard’s career was revived when he was with the Charlotte Hornets. The team sees him as the best back up point guard for their starters Kemba Walker and Courtney Lee. However, with the Hornets having five free agents on the line, including Jeremy Lin, Nic Batum, Marvin Williams, Courtney Lee, and Al Jefferson, they may end up losing Lin due to limited salary cap space.
On the other hand, the demolition of the triangle offense once Hornacek seats as the Knicks’ head coach may lead up for Lin to be a good fit for the team. Having a star like Carmelo Anthony and a young promising player like Kristaps Porzingis will be one of the reason why Lin should sign with the Knicks. Linsanity first excelled with the New York Knicks when Lin established a monstrous performance with the team. Once he is formally signed by the Knicks, there is a greater possibility that Kristaps Porzingis, Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin will be forming the next formidable trio in the league.
