Could Kenneth Faried help the Boston Celtics in the team’s hope to become a legit challenger to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference? According to NBA rumors, Faried could be one of the players on the trading block for the Denver Nuggets. Should the Celtics and Nuggets make a deal involving the athletic big man?
Luke Duffy of Hoops Habit asks if Faried is still “relevant” for the Nuggets and their rebuilding plans. Faried is just 26 years old so he is just hitting his prime as an NBA player. The question is if the Nuggets are better off trading him for younger prospects as they look toward the future.
“Interestingly, that four-year, $50 million deal he signed back in 2014 looks like a bargain now, and it is. But it also represents a contract that would be easily moved if the Nuggets wanted to trade him,” Duffy wrote.
“But should the team be looking to do so? Or does the fact that Faried now has better teammates around him mean that his production levels will increase this year too?”
With the current core in Denver’s roster, including Danilo Gallinari, Nikola Jokic, Will Barton and Faried, the Nuggets are not seen as a team that can contend with the top teams in the Western Conference. There’s even a question if they are good enough to battle for a playoff spot in the upcoming NBA season.
The Nuggets can choose to deal Faried to a team like the Celtics, which can provide them young players or future first round picks. However, Boston might want to ask for more and that could open the deal to including Gallinari.
Via ESPN Trade Checker, a Faried, Gallinari deal for Jaylen Brown, Amir Johnson, Kelly Olynyk and Jonas Jerebko works under NBA trade rules.
This deal is a blockbuster and it involves a lot of key pieces but it’s something that the Celtics can explore if they want to add more stars in the line-up.
The Nuggets will receive a star prospect in Brown and could demand the Celtics’ first round pick next draft, which will they get from the Brooklyn Nets. It’s going to be a high lottery pick with the Nets expected to end up as one of the worst teams in the league in the upcoming NBA season.
These NBA rumors make sense for the Celtics since they will add star power and depth if they get Faried and Gallinari. For the Nuggets, they will have more salary cap space next offseason and get the future high picks from Boston.
