NBA Rumors: Why Kevin Durant should consider joining LaMarcus Aldridge in Spurs?

Kevin Durant is one of the top three free agents this summer and many teams are lining up to pursue a deal with him. Some experts feel that the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar should consider signing for the San Antonio Spurs.

Spurs’ head coach Gregg Popovich is one of the prime reason why Durant should consider landing in San Antonio. The opportunity to play under a masterclass head coach like Popovich doesn’t come often. And Kevin Durant is at the zenith of his career. The 27-year-old superstar has repeatedly revealed that he wants to win the NBA championship at this stage of his career. San Antonio is no mean a platform than Golden State Warriors or the Oklahoma City Thunder in this regard.

Durant returned from a situation when his side was only one game away from the NBA Finals. The most sought after star in this free agency has every chances to raise his game to the next level and taste blood under the legendary Spurs’ coach.

Durant has shortlisted six teams for his impending free agency meetings. The Spurs feature in that list, but it is widely regarded that the All-star will re-sign with Oklahoma in a one-plus-one max deal with the option of hitting the free agency again in 2017 summer.

KD averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game this season with Thunder, according to the Forbes. He also shot 50.8 percent from the field.

San Antonio pulled of a significant trade last summer by signing LaMarcus Aldridge. The team will become the hot favorites for the next season’s championship under Popovich, if it manages trigger a similar trade this offseason by landing Durant. With Tim Duncan likely to retire and both Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili slowing down, the Spurs need a leader. Who else could be a better option than the Thunder star?

The 27-year-old superstar would surely prefer a two year deal keeping the rise in the league’s salary cap in mind. But both parties will gain significantly from if this contract.
