NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant to New York or Los Angeles? Thunder can keep superstar if they do one thing…

Kevin Durant will leave his current team, the Oklahoma City Thunder if they don’t win the championship this season and the unrestricted free agent is expected to consider at least seven other NBA teams, according to latest NBA rumors and previous reports earlier in the season.

Durant is the top free agent available in the summer of 2016, when he is free to choose and sign with any other NBA team that has available salary cap space.

Among the teams reportedly interested are the lottery teams New York and Los Angeles Lakers plus other playoff contenders like the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and even the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors are now part of the Kevin Durant NBA rumors in free agency. All the mentioned teams are potential landing spots for Durant as they can clear salary by the time the free agent signing begins on July 1, 2016.

The Knicks and Lakers have struggled this season but they have a few assets that may convince Durant to sign with their respective teams.

The Knicks have promising rookie Kristaps Porzingis and he appears to be a good fit alongside Durant. The problem with New York is that they still have Carmelo Anthony, who shares the same position as Durant but if Anthony waives his no trade clause, the Knicks can have the opportunity of trading Anthony for other pieces to surround Porzingis and Durant.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have also promising young guys in D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle. With Kobe Bryant retiring, the Lakers will have a big cap space and it could be enough to sign someone like Durant and even another player like DeMar DeRozan.

The only way the NBA rumors of Durant leaving the OKC Thunder will stop is for the team to win the NBA title this season, which means Durant, Russell Westbrook and the rest of the Thunder should upset the Spurs (second round) and Warriors (West Finals) in the upcoming 2016 NBA Playoffs.
