NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant to strongly consider joining Spurs this summer?

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant will become one of the most coveted free agents in the history of the NBA this offseason. According to the latest NBA rumors, Durant has hinted that he could be considering the San Antonio Spurs as a possible destination next season.

The Spurs and the Thunder are currently battling in the Western Conference semifinals. After losing Game 1 via a huge blowout, Oklahoma City tied the series at one game apiece following a close Game 2 win.

Before the current series started, Durant commented on the Spurs as a team and as an organization. He praised the coaching staff as well as the front office for the wonderful job it has done for the past 20 seasons.

“Having a very good coach is probably the most important thing in this league. You can have all the great players you want, but you have to have somebody to orchestrate it. That’s what they have. They have great players, but they also have a great coach to put them in position to utilize all their strength as individuals and make it come together as a team,” Durant told the San Antonio-Express News.

San Antonio boasts one of the greatest coaches in the history of basketball, Gregg Popovich. In a report by Chris Mannix of The Vertical, the Spurs and KD may have mutual interests.

Mannix noted that one rival executive believes that San Antonio will try to add the 2014 MVP to their roster and create a new big three along with Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. Nonetheless, the Spurs have to do a lot of roster changes to sign the 27-year-old superstar scorer.

According to Bleacher Report, the Spurs will have to move the contracts of Danny Green and Boris Diaw. They also need to Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and David West to opt out of their deals and re-sign at a discounted price. Players like Boban Marjanovic and Jonathan Simmons will also have to be let go.

However, teams like the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards are expected to make a run at Kevin Durant this summer.
