NBA Rumors: Knicks to pursue Stephen Curry next summer?

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are the favorites to win the 2017 NBA championship as they have added Kevin Durant to their already impressive team. However, if the Warriors fail to win the title, Curry can become a free agent and the latest NBA rumors suggest that the New York Knicks will pursue him.

According to Evan Massey of The Inquisitr, the Knicks should be aggressive in free agency if the back-to-back MVP becomes a free agent. It will only happen if the Curry-Durant dynamic implodes and they fail to knock the defending champions, Cleveland Cavaliers.

There have been talks recently about the possibility of Stephen Curry leaving the Warriors. Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report noted that the San Antonio Spurs and one “mystery team” will be in pursuit of Curry next summer.

“I think the Spurs are looking at the fact that Kevin Durant came into Golden State and that Kevin Durant may take up some of the superstar space that was previously occupied by Steph Curry… and when Steph Curry becomes a free agent, I think they are going to go hard at Steph Curry,” Bucher said.

That mystery team could very well be the Knicks because they are in a position to sign the 28-year-old sharpshooter. New York has been linked with Russell Westbrook in free agency before he signed a new three-year deal.

The Knicks will free up cap space next summer if they don’t re-sign Derrick Rose. However, Stephen Curry might not even consider New York but if the team makes it deep in next season’s playoffs, he could easily change his mind.

Nevertheless, these are all just NBA rumors at the moment. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant might work and they will win a lot of championships. On the other hand, they could not co-exist and teams such as the Knicks could pursue Curry in next year’s free agency.
