Free agents for the upcoming 2016 offseason are reportedly attracted to New York and consider the Knicks as prime destination with the presence of top rookie prospect Kristaps Porzingis and veteran star Carmelo Anthony, NBA rumors claim.
“Elite free agents generally aren’t as interested in young talent as they are veteran, winning talent in its prime. But Kristaps Porzingis of the Knicks is an exception. He’s far more and will be far more intriguing to free agents than say, the Lakers’ young core,” Adrian Wojnarowski said in a recent episode of The Vertical podcast.
“With Porzingis, you can already see the path for him becoming an All-Star level player very quickly.”
Wojnarowski, who is one of the popular and reliable NBA insiders, might have taken a shot at the Lakers, which are currently struggling this season and dealing with the drama between guards Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell.
Russell took a video of Young admitting that the latter cheated on girlfriend fiancée popstar Iggy Azalea. NBA rumors out of Los Angeles is that the Lakers will trade Young next season because of the tension between the two.
The Lakers are the worst team in the Western Conference and on the way to the lottery like the Knicks. However, New York will have to send their draft pick this year to the Toronto Raptors because of a trade in previous years.
Wojnarowksi believes though that the Knicks still have a better shot at acquiring the top free agents in the 2016 offseason.
Available are big names like Kevin Durant, Andre Drummond, DeMar DeRozan, Pau Gasol, Al Horford and Bradley Beal, among other free agents, all of whom will be involved in many NBA rumors linking them to teams like the Lakers and Knicks this summer.
