The Sacramento Kings are strongly considering trading their All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins this offseason. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in acquiring Cousins for several of its prized assets.
In his six seasons in Sacramento, Cousins has never reached the playoffs but was named an All-Star twice. He has also played under five head coaches in the last six years and is known for his attitude and temper.
Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee reported on Friday that Kings general manager Vlade Divac is unhappy with his star player’s issues. Many of Cousin’s teammates are also not close with him besides Rajon Rondo, Quincy Acy and Omri Casspi.

“The disconnect between Karl and Divac, and Karl and Cousins, is rivaled closely by the discord within the fragmented locker room. Apart from Rondo, Cousins has few friends among his teammates. Several players privately have complained to management about his mood swings and disrespect for those around him, including his coaches and in particular Karl,” Voisin wrote.
According to a Lakers Nation report, the Lakers tried to acquire Cousin last offseason and it’s very possible that they will try and do it again this summer. Los Angeles have several assets to offer in exchange for a franchise center.
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has expressed his desire to fast track the rebuilding process by trading for one star player and signing a second via free agency. Kupchak could offer D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle and a future pick for Cousins, per CBS Sports.
Cousins is one of the most talented big men in the NBA but he needs the right organization and the right coach to discipline him. A franchise like the Lakers with a rich history could set Cousins straight and the arrival of Luke Walton would be beneficial for his career.
Walton is a player’s coach that can understand Cousins and his tendencies compared to old school coaches like George Karl. Entering their seventh year together, the Kings and Cousins are not making any progress and a fresh start for both is needed.
