NBA Rumors: Lakers trading Jordan Clarkson and Nick Young for Jahlil Okafor; Sixers interested with the Filipino-American guard

Jordan Clarkson wants to stay with Lakers, but he is keeping an ‘open mind’ with free agency
If Jordan Clarkson had his way he would remain with the Los Angeles Lakers but rumors are swirling that the 24-yrear old Clarkson is keeping an “open mind” to the possibilities that would come when free agency starts on July 1.

Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Filipino-American guard Jordan Clarkson who is reportedly targeted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the upcoming free agency on July 1.

As predicted, the Philadelphia 76ers picked LSU’s forward Ben Simmons in the recent NBA draft. The Sixers have now given a big boost in their frontcourt with the addition of Simmons. However, they still need to develop their backcourt, especially in the starting guard position.

According to Sports Are Philly, ESPN NBA mock draft made a special discussion about the Philadelphia 76ers offseason plan. They predicted that the Sixers would try to sign Jordan Clarkson in the upcoming free agency.

Jordan Clarkson is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1. This means that the Lakers will only need to match any offer by other teams who would like to acquire him. The Lakers have enough salary cap so re-signing Clarkson will not be a problem.

Bret Stuter of Fansided reported that Jordan Clarkson is the ideal guard prospect for the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite the Lakers’ struggle in the 2015-16 NBA season, Clarkson has shown an impressive performance averaging 15.5 points and 81.5 percent accuracy in the free throw line.

Many have noticed that Jordan Clarkson needs to improve his accuracy in the three-point range. With Luke Walton as their new head coach, it is expected that he will execute the same offensive strategy that the Golden State Warriors play. This means that the Lakers are in need of a threat on the perimeter, especially in the three-point range.

Once Jordan Clarkson improves this summer, the Lakers will likely keep him for their team. Though the Sixers have something to offer for him, the Filipino-American guard expressed his desire to re-sign with the Lakers in July.

“L.A. is like home for me, so I definitely want to be here. I definitely want to stay in L.A. but kind of have an open mind.” Clarkson said.

Still, if the Sixers are serious about acquiring him, they could still pitch him via a sign-and-trade deal. The Lakers are reportedly looking for a starting center wherein the Sixers could offer either Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor.

However, Clarkson will surely be not enough to close the deal so the Lakers could add additional players like Nick Young and Robert Sacre. If the trade happens, it will surely benefit both teams since it will fill up some key positions they are currently in need.
