Mike Conley is the top point guard free agent this summer and NBA rumors has the Memphis Grizzlies PG linked to many NBA teams including the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks.
Chris Broussard of ESPN tweeted the Mike Conley free agency update first mentioning that the point guard will meet with the Mavericks first.
Broussard also added the Conley and the Grizzlies are also negotiating but it would depend if the Memphis squad is willing to give him the full max deal for five years. The 28-year-old Conley has been with the Grizzlies since Memphis drafted him as the fourth overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.
Last year for Memphis, which suffered an injury-riddled season for most of their key players, Conley averaged 15.3 points, 6.1 assists and 1.2 steals in the 2015-2016 regular season. Conley has been one of the leaders for the team with playoff appearances from 2011 to 2015.
Conley’s part of the core group in Memphis that includes center Marc Gasol, power forward Zach Randolph and shooting guard Tony Allen.
The Rockets and Mavericks are the most interesting possible teams for Conley in these NBA rumors because they need a starting PG and can contend for a playoff spot in the Western Conference next season.
Conley going to the Los Angeles Lakers won’t make sense unless the Hollywood team lets go of their point guards D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson. The Nets and Pelicans need a starting point guard but they are not seen as contenders next season and Conley might want to play for a winning team.
Can any of the mentioned teams in the NBA rumors steal Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies this summer?
