Michael Carter-Williams has been one of the rumored names on the trading block since the NBA trade deadline. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Dallas Mavericks could acquire Carter-Williams from the Milwaukee Bucks as they continue their youth movement.
The Bucks signed NBA champion and Olympic breakout star Matthew Dellavedova to a four-year, $38 million deal while head coach Jason Kidd has been very vocal about starting Giannis Antetokounmpo at point guard next season. Those decisions mean MCW might get traded at some point in the next several months.
On the other hand, the Mavericks finally started a youth movement by signing Harrison Barnes this offseason. They can continue that by trading for Carter-Williams, who was the Rookie of the Year in 2014.
Isaac Harris of The Smoking Cuban suggested that the Mavericks can trade veteran point guard Devin Harris to Milwaukee in exchange for MCW. He noted that Harris provides the young Bucks some veteran presence that is needed if they are looking to make the playoffs.
NBA rumors in Milwaukee from the past couple of months indicate that Greg Monroe will likely get traded first before Carter-Williams. The Bucks can still give the former Rookie of the Year one last chance but he needs to improve his shooting.
According to Adam Coffman of Behind The Buck Pass, the 24-year-old point guard is set to become a free agent next season. He needs big minutes to play great basketball in order to get paid huge next summer.
It should be noted that these are just NBA rumors but the Bucks has openly talked about Monroe and Carter-Williams being available. Nevertheless, MCW’s value is at an all-time low at the moment which means Milwaukee will not be getting much if they trade him now.
